Frequently Asked Questions

Most questions that arise with using CSVenator products are the result of users not using the User Guides to set up and use the functionality properly. The User Guides contain screen shots of common error messages, the reasons for them and the action that you need to take. We strongly recommend that you follow the User Guide for your product for a trouble-free installation, to familiarise yourself with it’s capabilities and it’s correct use. The User Guides are updated from time to time. Please ensure that you are using the latest version. Some of the more common questions are reproduced below.

Q1. I have purchased a CSVenator product on the internet but my download was interrupted. How do I finish downloading my software?

A1. When you purchase your product, our secure payment system will e-mail you with a unique transaction code and transaction ID. If the transmission is interrupted click here to link to reconnect to the download.

Q2. When I try to start CSVenator for the first time I get a message saying ‘interface dll missing!’. What have I done wrong?

A2. You have not completed the install process properly. Refer to the ReadMe file supplied with your software or the Getting Started section of the product user guide. These describe the simple process of completing the installation of the security software.

Q3. When I follow the instructions to complete the security installation process, I am instructed to ‘open a Windows Explorer window and change directory to the C:\Program Files\CSVProduct directory’. How do I do this?

A3. Right click on the Start button at the bottom left of your screen. Select Explore. Locate your Local Disk (C) and look at the folders underneath it for Program Files. Double click on Program Files. You will now see a list of programs. Find the file for your CSVenator product (CSVproduct name) where product name is the name of the product you have purchased. Double click on it. On the right of your screen you will see the files within it, including the CSVsecure.BAT file that you are looking for.

Q4. When I start CSVenator, I get a screen telling me that the product is locked. Why is this and what do I need to do?

A4. CSVenator products are security protected by software which locks the product to a single PC. This is to avoid illegal copying and distribution. The security screen will be displayed when you first start your CSVenator product. You need to copy and paste the Site and MID Codes that are shown and paste them into an e-mail to info@csvenator.com. We will then calculate and issue your authorisation code which you copy and paste into the Authorisation Code filed provided. Click on Continue to use your copy of the CSVenator software. You may also see this screen if any one of a number of elements change on your PC, including changes to hardware, motherboard, network cards, etc. If this should occur, follow the process described above and include details of what has changed on your PC in your e-mail to us.

Q5. I have bought a new PC. When I copy my CSVenator software across to it the software won’t work and comes up with a security screen telling me that the product is locked. What do I need to do?

A5. See Q4 above. If you are copying to a new PC you MUST ensure that you copy your existing database to the new machine. If you are unsure how to do this, contact support@csvenator.com. You then need to uninstall your copy of the CSVenator product from your old PC by clicking on Start (bottom left of your desktop) select Control Panel and then Add or Remove Programs. Select your CSVenator product from the list and then click on Remove to uninstall it. You then need to copy and paste the Site and MID Codes that are shown on your new PC and paste them into an e-mail to info@csvenator.com. We will then calculate and issue your new authorisation code which you copy and paste into the Authorisation Code filed provided.

Q6. When I start CSVenator, I get messages saying that it contains potentially harmful code and asking me if I wish to continue. What should I do?

A6. These messages are issued by Microsoft Access and are related to the level of security that is set on your PC and the currency of your Microsoft Windows updates. There is no harmful code in any CSVenator product and you can continue with confidence. To avoid these messages, close down CSVenator. Start Microsoft Access. On the Tools menu select ‘Macro’ then ‘Security’. Check the option for low security. Close down Access and then restart CSVenator. You can now proceed as normal.

Q7. I am trying to enter details of a cull but keep getting error messages referring to outings-dac or the date that I entered not being a valid list item.

A7. You have tried to enter details of a cull without first entering the details of the outing which resulted in the cull. You need to go into Deer Management / Outing Details and enter the required information. When you select Yes in the success flag you will automatically be presented with the Cull Details screen which you can then complete.

Q8. I have tried to enter outing details in the Deer Management section but there is nothing in the drop down lists for me to select from.

A8. You have not set up the system before attempting to record deer management details. The Setup section requires you to enter certain mandatory information in order to populate the drop down lists which you will use when entering outing and cull information. Refer to the product User Guide for details on how to do this.

Q9. I want to enter details of my trophy but the filed are greyed out and won’t allow me to type anything in. What’s wrong?

A9. Trophy fields are inactive (greyed out) until ‘Male’ is selected in the ‘Sex’ field. You have either not entered the sex of the animal or you have selected ‘Female’.

Q10. I want to go back into an outing record that I entered a while ago to add some extra information or to amend the record. How do I find the one I’m looking for?

A10. Go into Deer Management / Outing Details and click on the Search Icon(search) icon. Select the outing that you are interested in from the drop down list and hit enter. This will take you to that record which you can now update.

Q11. I want to go back into a cull record that I entered a while ago to add some extra information or to amend the record. How do I find the one I’m looking for?

A11. Follow the instructions provided in A.6 (above). When you get to the Outing Details screen, click on ‘View Culls’. This will show you the culls associated with this outing.

Q12. When I click on the Print icon on the Reports Launcher, nothing happens or I get a printer error message.

A12. You need to have a printer attached to your PC, powered on and specified as your default printer for the print function to be able to work. You can check your printer status by clicking on Start in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, selecting Printers and Faxes then checking that a printer is installed and is checked as being your default printer.

Q13. I have tried to print out a carcass tag but nothing happens.

A13. See A.9 (above).

Q14. How does the data export for the mail merge work?

A14. The creation of mailing lists for mail shots is not part of CSVenator functionality. However, we do provide a facility to extract data to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which can then be used as input data to Microsoft Word to create mailing lists. Refer to Microsoft Word Help for details on how to do this.

Q15. I closed down the previous screen and now have a completely blank blue screen. What has happened?

A15. You have inadvertantly clicked on the X at the top right hand corner of the main CSVenator screen and you have closed down the program. Click on the X at the top right hand corner of the screen to close down Microsoft Access. Click on the CSVenator icon on your desktop to restart the program. You will not have lost any data as CSVenator automatically saves it for you.

Q16. I have entered an Outing that I no longer require. How do I delete it?

A16. You cannot delete an Outing as this would spoil the referential integrity of the database. (This means that you would be able to create data in an uncontrolled way that the software could not manage). The easy way to remove a record that is no longer required is to re-use it for the next outing you wish to record. Simply overtype the existing information with the new record. It doesn’t matter that it may be out of date sequence, the software will handle this during the reporting process.

Note : The need to delete records should be a very rare occurrence if the software is being used correctly.

Q17. I have entered a Cull record that I no longer require. How do I delete it?

A17. You cannot delete a cull. In effect, this is the same situation as Q16 above and the solution is similar. In a new outing record, leave the success flag as ‘No’. Change the outing date in the unwanted cull record to the new outing date and save the cull record. Go to the new outing and change the success flag to ‘Yes’ and save the record. The unwanted cull record will now show up and the detail can be changed to reflect the new cull. When the required changes have been made, save the record.

Q18. I purchased my product on a CD. When I put the CD in my PC I get an error message saying ‘Error Code 000005’. What does this mean and what do I need to do.

A18. This message is generated by Microsoft Windows and means that you do not have the authority to install software on your PC. You require Administrator rights to install software. To check your rights, Click on Start, select Control Panel and then User Accounts. You will see the user accounts that are set up for your PC. One of these will be the Administrator account. You either need to use this account, have your account modified to give administrator rights, create a new account with administrator rights for you to use or have your system administrator install it for you.

Note : This is more likely to be an issue when attempting to load the software onto company PCs, especially where they are networked. You will need to comply with your company policies on loading software onto individual PCs.
